Two moons in the sky at the end of August: truth and fiction. The phenomenon of "two moons" What does two moons mean

The editors of the "Science" department of "Gazeta.Ru" were pretty surprised by the news circulated on the Internet that on the night of August 27, shortly after midnight, two moons could be seen. Moreover, this will not be the result of double vision after a Sunday rest, but a real astronomical phenomenon - Mars will approach the Earth so much that it will look like a full moon. Here is a typical post on the subject:

“On the night of August 26-27, you will need to raise your eyes and look at the night sky. On this night, the planet Mars will pass only 34,650 miles from Earth.

To the naked eye it will look like two moons!

Mars will next be this close to Earth in 2287. And the last time, according to scientists, Mars came so close only BC, when humanity was at the level of Neanderthals.

Somewhat taken aback, we turned to a well-known astronomer for a comment, but he commented on this message so emotionally that even we blushed and decided to do without an expert opinion. Of course, only a clinical bore can seriously comment on this absurdity:

neither under the Neanderthals nor under the Australopithecus did Mars come close to our planet by ten distances from Moscow to Vladivostok, and, according to astronomical calculations, it will never come close. And if, contrary to these calculations, this actually happened, the world would have noticed the "second moon" long before August 27 and would begin to intensively prepare for the inevitable apocalypse.

And it’s not at all worth saying that from a distance of 50,000 km, Mars will look ten times larger than the Moon.

Another thing is interesting: as it turned out, the message about two moons appears on the eve of August 27 every year since 2003.

But in 2003, on August 27, an event really happened that astronomers call not even great, but the greatest: Mars approached the Earth at a distance of 55,758,006 km, that is, by more than 34 million miles, and there was no such approach to the Earth as for at least the past five thousand years.

According to calculations, the next record approach will occur on August 28, 2287. An almost complete coincidence is to a certain extent accidental, however, according to the table of closest approaches of Earth and Mars, they all occurred and will occur in July-September, and most often in August.

In 2003, either someone made a very successful joke, or someone didn’t understand something and confused millions of miles with thousands, but one way or another, this someone launched a fairy tale about two moons, which was picked up with a bang and with Since then, annually by the end of summer, it has been revived, not only on Internet forums, but even in national newspapers.

In terms of the level of outright absurdity, this tale is not even pseudoscience, but its quintessence. Myths about miraculous drugs, aliens, drums, particles with superluminal speeds, etc., at least pretend to be logical, but in the plot with two moons, there is no such pretense at all, there is only an amazing level of illiteracy.

For many millennia people have been living in the expectation of a miracle, and in some part this expectation is stronger than in others. A miracle is an event that occurs in violation of the laws of nature, it is irrational. And if a person has forgotten what he learned at school, or if he was not taught anything sensible at school, he will readily believe anything if it looks like a miracle. What happens with the tale of the two moons.

Indeed, on June 27, two moons should appear in the sky.

There will be a lunar eclipse that will last more than an hour and a half.

The peculiarity of this eclipse is that, as they promise, there will be two moons in the sky due to an optical phenomenon.

Allegedly, this phenomenon is very rare and occurs once every few centuries.

This news was reported by Komsomolskaya Pravda.

rare expected celestial phenomenon, not only a lunar eclipse, but also the opposition of Mars and the Moon, during which, due to the optical effect and the maximum approach of the planet to the Earth, it will seem that there are two Moons in the sky.

Perhaps this news is fake, but it's good when there is an occasion to take another look at the sky.

The fact is that, as experts say, on the night of June 27-28, Mars will pass very close to Earth. Connoisseurs promise that it will look very beautiful: two luminous moons will rise above us. True, not everyone considers the described event so spectacular, but only those who poorly taught astronomy ...

On June 27 (twenty-seventh) June 2018, we will not see two moons in the sky. There is no such phenomenon in astronomy. And here is another rare and amazing astronomical phenomenon on the night of June 27-28, 2018, we can observe.

The thing is that in the evening at 23.11 Moscow time, the planet Moon and the planet Mars will be at the closest distance from each other and therefore both planets will be, as it were, the same reddish color. But these will not be two moons, but two different planets.

And about the two moons, someone with an enviable frequency spreads false information on the network. Apparently someone needs it to attract attention.

Now many people have telescopes, albeit not as powerful as those in the observatories. But all the same, to consider the crator seas on the moon - you can easily. Yes, you can see two moons. Only here on June 27 such a phenomenon will not happen. And this is due to the fact that it is simply unrealistic. There are no such illusions due to the refraction of light between the sun and the moon. As we all remember, there is a red moon, this effect is given by sunlight. And there is an eclipse of the sun by the moon. And the answer to your question will be - the phenomenon is only an illusion and a news duck.

27 numbers at the intersection of two parallel worlds you can see two moons. This metaphysical phenomenon occurs as a result of solar influence, but what is not yet clear. That is, the Sun will somehow illuminate the Moon that day, so that Moon 2 from a parallel world can be seen next to it.

June 27, 2018 when the full moon will be. We can observe at this time that the disk of the Moon is completely illuminated by the Sun. At this time, the two planets are opposite each other. We only observe the reflected light of the sun from the lunar disk. THERE ARE NO AND NEVER HAVE BEEN TWO MOONS.

This bike is distributed on the network at different intervals, writes Ros-Registr. In 2003, Mars was close to the Moon and Earth, it was observed by the observers who took the red planet for the second moon.

But purely physically it is unrealistic. Since the Earth has only one satellite. And even with the strongest refraction of light from the Sun - an illusion with two moons - will not arise! Seeing two moons in the sky is something fantastic, or invented by people themselves! We will never see this, since there is no second moon. Therefore, this should not be expected in 2018, and in subsequent years.

But still, there is some truth in this. On June 27, 2018, almost throughout Russia, with the exception of the Far East, two moons will be visible at once. This is a rare astronomical event, it will occur at 00.30 Moscow time. In the last hundred years, this will be the longest lunar eclipse. And it will continue for 1.43 and the next such phenomenon is expected only in 2287.

The previous total lunar eclipse occurred on January 31, 2018, with a depth of 1.32 lunar diameters into the southern part of the earth's shadow. The eclipse was observed in most of the territory of Russia. The best visibility conditions are in Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

According to the astronomer of the Tomsk planetarium Yevgeny Parfenov, in reality, a double moon is impossible. "The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 380 thousand km, and to Mars - 60 million km," the specialist notes.

The double moon fake, according to him, has been in the news since 2003. Then the red planet really came closer to the Earth and looked bright.

If you believe in miracles, then it’s better to make a wish today on the day of the summer solstice, it will certainly come true.

Today I hung out on the beach all day and looked at the sky, there was nothing, the sky was blue, not a single cloud and one sun. Two years ago, astronomers said that people are spreading fakes, you see, they don’t have enough miracles. And if today, June 27, there is still time to see two moons, I will see such a wonderful phenomenon, I will take a picture of two moons and attach it to the answer. But in fact, you can’t see two moons, there aren’t two of them at once

You know, it would be great to see such a miracle.

Two moons at once - it's WOW! It is clear that the Moon is actually one and there is simply nowhere to take the other, but maybe some kind of optical illusion ...

However, no. We won't see anything like this on June 27th. As on other days, even this, even any other year. The news that this is possible is spread by those who, by any means, get views for themselves.

It is impossible to see two moons in the sky.

Such a myth about two moons appeared on the net a few years ago, after the publication of an article about the approach of Mars to the Earth.

The article was misinterpreted.

The article said that as Mars approaches Earth, Mars becomes brighter. If you look at it through a telescope, it will visually resemble the moon.

From here came the myth of two moons in the sky, which periodically pops up.

06/27/2018 in almost all territories of our country, except Dal. East, 2 moons will be visible. Time - 00.30. This is the longest lunar eclipse in the last century, its duration is 1.43. The next such display is promised only in 2287.

These two moons are explained by the exact coincidence of the centers of the moon and the earth's shadow. At this time, the Moon, Earth and Sun will be in line, the Earth will be in the middle and block the Moon from sunlight.

The beginning of the phenomenon at 20:13 (Moscow time) on July 27. The total phase of the eclipse from 22:30 to 01:14 on July 28, at half past three in the night, the Moon will come out of the Earth's shadow.

The end of 2019 turned out to be quite entertaining for the working part of Russians in terms of discussing the working regime in its last few days. Perhaps every respected person in our country expressed his opinion on whether December 31, 2019 should be made a day off, or left as a working day.

In general, according to the production calendar for 2019, as a whole in the Russian Federation, Tuesday 12/31/2019 is a working day, shortened by 1 hour due to the fact that this is the eve of a non-working holiday. According to the "classic" scheme, it is preceded by two days off (Saturday 28 December and Sunday 29 December 2019) and a working Monday 30 December 2019.

However, some Heads of regions decided to make December 31, 2019 a day off, by transferring the day of rest to it from Saturday December 28, 2019. Relevant Decrees were issued, binding on regional state employees and recommendatory for all other organizations in the region.

It turned out that in some regions of the Russian Federation, some organizations work on December 28, 2019 (on Saturday) and rest on the 31st, while the other part work on December 31, 2019 (on New Year's Eve) and rest on the 28th. And there are even organizations where half of the employees enter the service on December 28, and the other half on December 31.

As a result of the confusion that has arisen, many have a question regarding Sunday, December 29, 2019 - does it end up being a working day or a day off in Russia?

We answer:
Sunday 29 December 2019 is a public holiday in Russia.

There are no transfers of weekends and working days associated with the last Sunday of 2019, the federal legislation of the Russian Federation does not provide.

But let's get back to school holidays and tell you when it starts and how many days it lasts.

Regardless of the training system (modules, trimesters or quarters), winter holidays 2019-2020 start the same way - on Saturday, December 28, 2019. In some educational institutions, a New Year's event outside the school walls may be scheduled on the first day of the holidays.

Most schools winter holidays last 12 days, until Wednesday 8 January 2020. There are schools where the vacation period is 16 days, until Sunday, January 12, 2020. From 17 to 24 February 2020 there will be a second winter vacation during trimesters, as well as during quarters for first graders. In any case, check the vacation schedule with the administration of your school.

That is, the winter holidays 2019-2020 for schoolchildren:
* when they start - from Saturday 28 December 2019
* how many days last - 12 days.
* when they end - on Wednesday, January 8, 2020
* first day of school - Thursday 9 January 2020

Here's what should be on the New Year's table in the year of the Rat:

* So, pie on the table is a must! With cabbage, meat, fish or sweet - any pie is attractive to a rodent.

* Salads can be divided into portions into tartlets.

* We recommend stuffing a baked bird (goose, duck or chicken) with rice in addition to apples and prunes, and when serving, decorate it beautifully fresh herbs and nuts.

* Considering mouse preference, don't forget salad with grated cheese or cheese slices. Lean varieties of well-cooked and thinly sliced meats can also grace the table.

* Don't forget about fruits. A vase with beautifully arranged apples, pears and grapes will please the mouse very much.

* Dishes from potatoes and carrots. The owners of cellars, who store winter stocks there, know firsthand about the love of rodents for these vegetables.

How to arrange a New Year's table for 2020:

In the design of the table opt for white, in serving - crystal and silver cutlery. The tablecloth on the table is also desirable white, because the color of the coming year is white!

This is explained by the fact that Mars will be at such a close distance from the Earth that it will literally outshine the satellite with its size. Is this true or fiction, the correspondent of the news agency "Bel.Ru" understood.

It all started in 2003 with the so-called "Martian hoax". Then 13 years ago, at the end of August, there was a Great Confrontation of Mars [Earth and Mars were very close to each other - approx. ed.], and e-mail newsletters claimed that when viewed from Earth, the red planet would be larger than the Moon in a full moon. In fact, when translating this phrase, “with a magnification of 75 times” was lost, and the story turned into a “duck”.

People are not even embarrassed by the fact that for 13 years now, every August, a similar “duck” has appeared, in which it is written that in the near future such an event will be only in two thousand one hundred some year.

By the way, such confrontations occur every 15-17 years. The next such event will take place in July 2018. There will also be a total lunar eclipse on the same night.

But besides the great ones, there are ordinary confrontations every 25-26 months. This year the last one was at the end of May. The Sun, Earth and Mars are lined up, with the red planet at the closest distance from Earth.

Mars is now moving away from Earth. It can be seen in the evenings after dark in the southwest, not high above the horizon. It is visible as a reddish bright star. Now, together with Saturn and Antares (alpha Scorpio), it forms a beautiful triangle.Anton Borovskoy organizer of sidewalk astronomy evenings in Belgorod

Belgorod residents can watch Mars even from the windows of high-rise buildings. The main condition is that they must face south or west. The best time to observe the red planet is from 20:30 to 21:30, then Mars sets and sets around 23:00.

But back to our moons. As astronomers say, even at the smallest distance from the Earth, Mars will look like an ordinary bright star. And even August 27 of any year will not be an exception.

Mars is about twice the size of the Moon, and in order for Mars to be seen the size of the Moon, it must approach the Earth at a distance twice as far as the Moon. And the distance to the Moon is about 360-400 thousand km, to Mars, even in the great opposition, not less than 55-60 million km.Anton Borovskoy organizer of sidewalk astronomy evenings in Belgorod

Now the red planet is clearly visible through a telescope. Through a magnifying lens, you can even see the disk of the planet and some details on it. The rest of the time, Mars is at such a distant distance that even for telescopes it is of no interest.

By the way, the moon on August 27 will be completely absent from the sky. It will rise only on August 28 at 01:30 in the form of a waning crescent in the east, that is, Mars and the Moon will not be simultaneously observed in the night sky.

“Last year, a sensational message appeared on English-language sites - and migrated to Russian-language ones: on August 6, 2011, residents of the Australian city of Busby saw ... two moons in the sky! Astronomers helplessly shrugged their shoulders: they were not ready to say anything about the second satellite of the Earth, about which no one knew anything until now ... Photos and even videos of a unique phenomenon were attached. Some enthusiasts broadcast that the second moon was known to the ancients - and two letters "O" in English word moon (moon) denote exactly two moons (the fantastic knowledge of the ancients is generally one of the most discussed topics in our time) ...

Alas, the sensation turned out to be an ordinary "duck", moreover, not very well-crafted: attentive readers noticed that the surface of the "second moon" is the same as that of the first (only the image was rotated and painted in a different color) - it cannot, in in fact, to be two absolutely identical celestial bodies! Yes, and the date was chosen unsuccessfully: at that time in Australia there could not be a full moon - not even one ... The administrator of one site even declared that he would not delete this note - he would leave it as a “sample of nonsense”.

Yes, the Earth was not lucky with satellites - even Mars has two of them ... so the desire of earthlings to see two moons in the sky can be understood. However, it is possible that it was once possible! But then there was no one to look at the sky.

4 billion years ago, a planet (called Theia) about the size of Mars collided with the Earth - the moon was formed from the debris. Scientists have long noticed that its "light" side (facing the Earth) and "dark" are different: one is flatter, the other is more mountainous, with a thicker crust ... American researchers E. Asfog and M. Jutzi suggested that after a collision with Teia formed not one, but two satellites of the Earth! The second was smaller than the Moon - 1200 km in radius - and over time it fell on the Moon, after which the debris was evenly distributed over the surface of the dark side.

But another American scientist - W. Cassidy - believes that we had a second moon at a completely historical time - 6-7 thousand years ago, so that humanity retained the memory, if not of the satellite itself, then of its death: the Sumerian goddess Inanna, crossing the sky in dazzling light, ancient greek myth about Phaeton, and the English folklore researcher J. Frazer found a similar motif in the legends of 130 Indian tribes!

W. Cassidy could not but recall these legends while studying meteorites found in the north of Argentina in the Campo del Cielo region. Back in the 16th century Spanish conquistadors discovered a huge metal block there, which, according to the Indians, fell from the sky in ancient times ... At the beginning of the 19th century, an iron meteorite weighing about a ton was found there, its largest fragment is now in the British Museum. In subsequent years, a lot of meteorites were found in Campo del Cielo - from small ones to a "record holder" of 33.4 tons ... "heavenly iron" was also discovered by W. Cassidy's expedition. The composition of the meteorites found in these places testified that they are fragments of one object. This happens: a large meteorite explodes in the atmosphere - but usually the fragments scatter over an area not exceeding 1600 m, and here it was about 17 km! Moreover, chemical analysis showed the "kinship" of the Argentine finds with the meteorite found in 1937 ... in Australia! And the crater in which it was found is not the only one in the area.

W. Cassidy managed to establish the "age" of the disaster - 5800 years. What could have caused her? According to the scientist, it was the second satellite of the Earth, which revolved around our planet for 1000 years, gradually approaching it, until it collapsed under the influence of Earth's gravity - and then the fragments fell to Earth in the form of meteorites ... that's how we lost the second Moon.

However, from time to time there are phenomena that look like “two moons”. So, on August 27, 2011 at 0.30 Mars passed at a very close distance from the Earth - and it could be seen with the naked eye. Of course, it was not the size of the Moon - but still larger than the stars (so you could get an idea of \u200b\u200bwhat we could observe if we had a second satellite). The next time such a miracle is expected in 280 years.

There are also so-called false moons - a special case of a halo, a luminous circle that occurs around the sun or moon due to the refraction of light in specially arranged ice crystals in the clouds. The circle may not be fully visible, some of its parts may be brighter - then bright spots appear to the left and right of the star - these are false suns or moons (it turns out not two, but even three moons). True, it is not easy to see false moons: they are extremely rare, they glow weakly and dimly ... False suns look much more “expressive”, there are sometimes even four of them - but this phenomenon is infrequent, and they remember it for a long time ... especially if it preceded some events with which it can be associated. So, the infamous campaign of Prince Igor against the Polovtsy was accompanied not only by a solar eclipse, but also by such a “heavenly sign”.

In a word, sadly, we do not get to see two moons in the night sky. But no one bothers to imagine distant planets, where you can see two, and three, and as many moons as you like ... or maybe someday we will still fly to them?
