Parking in florence. Parking in Florence Parking in Florence to the ztl zone

Throughout the historic center of Florence (the area located between the ring roads) there is a system for monitoring vehicle entry through the use of a camera system, where special rules apply, which should be consulted before entering the center of Florence by car. This system is called ZTL, i.e. "restricted traffic area"... If you have rented accommodation in the historic center of Florence and decide to come to the city by your own car, please read these instructions carefully, which will help you organize your arrival in the city stress-free and avoid fines for breaking the rules.

Movement and parking of vehicles non-residents completely banned for the following hours: Monday through Friday With 07:30 to 20:00 and in saturday With 07:30 to 16:00(excluding weekends and holidays), except on days when more specific regulations come into force (eg summer night ZTL, ZTL for "white nights" - when shops and bars are open until late at night).

The ZTL area is limited by “passages” marked with special signs, which are quite difficult to skip. The signs are controlled camcorders, which automatically read the numbers of all passing vehicles. Among the numerous “passages”, some of them (intended exclusively for public transport and ambulances) are permanently prohibited, 24 hours a day... All this you will understand thanks to traffic lights that allow passage "Accesso Libero" (Access is free) by means of green, or prohibiting passage "Accesso solo Autorizzati" (Access only for persons with permission) by means of red.

Passing under a TV camera (excluding the lanes allocated for public transport and pedestrians, which are prohibited 24 hours a day) at a red traffic light, you are flagrantly violating traffic rules. If you need to enter the ZTL area to reach your apartment, you will have to contact the private garage in the vicinity of the apartment and reserve a place for your car. Thus, thanks to this reservation, you will be able to enter without any problems on the day of your check-in on the spot.

Garages in the city are paid, but they also provide a service for registering and transmitting your car numbers directly to the relevant authorities in electronic format. The permit is issued for a maximum of two hours for the carriage of baggage, and therefore, as a rule, only on the day of arrival and departure.

For the purpose of loading and unloading baggage, you can get a temporary travel permit and parking your car in one of the private paid garages, also just for a few hours.

Here are some examples of private garages in Florence:

Persons with a “disabled” sign in a car who need to drive their own vehicles to the ZTL zone should call toll-free 800 339891.

Alternatively, you can park your car outside the restricted traffic area and take buses, taxis or rent a car with a driver to get to your apartment.

If you leave your car outside the ZTL, you will have to park it in one of the zones called ZCS (Controlled Parking Zone). Florence is divided into several zones called "ZCS" where for non-residents - paid parking in parking spaces with a blue line (parking spaces with a white line are exclusively for residents) and also offers various paid indoor car parks.

In particular, the paid car parks “Parterre” (in Piazza Libertà), “Oltrarno” (Porta Romana area), “Beccarla” and “Fortezza Fiera” (Fortezza da Basso) offer especially favorable day and night rates.

Florence Office - Address: Via dei Serragli 6 / R - Oltrarno District - San Frediano

In recent years, independent tourist trips have become increasingly popular and in demand. Much has been written about the experience of such travels. Social media is overflowing with photos and video sketches of satisfied tourists traveling around the world on their own.

Looking at photographs and reading rave reviews or helpful advice, many people begin to think that everything is easy and simple - you just need to fly to the country, rent a car at the airport and, in general, everything, you can go on a journey that will be nothing clouded. Meanwhile, this idea is completely untrue in very many moments. For example, the issue of parking is not a problem for Russians. Our compatriots are used to simply leaving the car on the side of the road, where there is free space and there is no prohibition sign. However, in many European cities it is impossible to do this, for example, in the "pearl of the Renaissance" - Florence.

How are parking lots organized in Florence?

Parking in Florence is organized on a territorial basis:

  • within the historical part;
  • on the streets, in places with special signs;
  • on the territory of hotels;
  • in equipped parking lots.

Understanding the intricacies of local requirements is not easy. For example, on the central city streets, where all the sights visited by tourists are concentrated, it is allowed to leave a car only in hotel parking lots. You can park outside hotel parking lots in the center only if you have a special permit, which allows you to occupy places marked in white in the rest of the city. Such permits are available from the police, government officials, employees of local museums, ambulances and others.

However, there is an interesting nuance: near the Santa Maria Novella station, the very one that appears in all films about Florence and opposite which is located the oldest operating pharmacy-museum in Europe, Farmacia di Santa Maria Novella, there is an underground parking where you can leave your car without any problems or special permissions. The same parking is available at the San Lorenzo market.

Considering that parking in hotels requires quite a lot of money, if the tourist is not a guest, of course, it makes sense to carefully study all the options for where you can leave the car until the moment the need arises.

Do you need to pay for parking in hotels?

This question is one of the most relevant for tourists visiting Florence for the first time and doing it on their own. Most Russians are accustomed to the fact that the payment for a hotel room already includes the ability to use everything within the hotel. But this is not always the case. Parking in Florence is expensive, even if the car is parked outside the hotel where the tourist is staying.

You will have to pay for the use of the parking space. At the same time, the cost of using parking at hotels decreases in proportion to their distance from the city center. On average, parking in Florence in the hotel parking lot in the center costs 20 euros per day, and outside, in other areas, 15 euros.

What is ZTL zone

This designation is full of all city center maps intended for motorists. Accordingly, everyone who wants to use a car in this place needs to know exactly what it is.

The ZTL zone in Florence is a territory that is prohibited from entering at a certain time for anyone who does not have a special permit. This is a very important point that the overwhelming majority of tourists ignore. Not only parking on the streets is prohibited, but also the very fact of a car entering at specified time intervals. The full name of these territories is “traffic limitato zone”. You can pronounce it this way, the Florentines will understand what it is about.

When entry into the ZTL zone is restricted

The standard entry restrictions are as follows:

  • weekdays - from 07:30 to 20:00;
  • Saturday - 07:30 to 16:00.

On Sunday, you can enter the central part of the city at any time. However, be sure to pay attention to calendar dates and internal restrictions. Within this zone there are territories where you can never enter, even with a permit. Different rules apply on holidays.

In addition, there are additional restrictions in force during the tourist inflow season. They are flexible enough and depend on the flow of travelers. If there are a lot of guests in the city, then entry is prohibited from early Monday morning until three Sunday night, and at the permitted time, only cars with relevant documents, for example, food suppliers, are allowed to enter.

What if the hotel is in the historic center?

This problem is faced by all, without exception, tourists who travel around Italy on their own and have booked a hotel without taking into account the specifics of entry and parking in the center of Florence. You can apply in one of two ways:

  • require hotel employees to issue a pass;
  • leave the car outside the historic center.

The second option is in many ways more preferable than the first. Especially for those who do not plan to stay in the city for more than two or three days.

In the event that the traveler chooses the option with a pass, it is extremely important not to enter the restricted area before the appropriate sticker appears on the glass. That is, you need to either agree on the phone about the delivery of the permit, or go for it yourself. All central Florence is under video surveillance. Therefore, or for entering a prohibited area, you will definitely have to pay, for example, when returning the car.

Are there free parking lots in the city?

This question is asked by all travelers who do not count on paying for parking spaces when planning a budget. There are no free parking lots in Florence as such, but of course there are streets where you can park your car by the side of the road. However, they are all incredibly far from the tourist routes and hotels where visitors stay. It is unlikely that anyone wants to leave their rented car in the middle of a dysfunctional district, which will have to drive from the hotel for more than an hour with transfers.

The closest place to the historic center where you can leave your car without fear of getting a parking ticket is Piazzale Michelangelo. However, on holidays, various concerts and festivities are held here. The Christmas market is open here in December. Of course, cars cannot be left here during events.

How much are paid street parking?

Street parking in Florence to the ZTL zone costs an average of 2 euros in the first hour. Subsequent payment varies depending on the distance from the center. On most parking lines, the paid period runs from 08:00 to 20:00.

Information about which time slot needs payment is placed directly on the parking lines. There are also signs indicating the timetable for washing the street in the truest sense of the word. During the movement of sprinklers, the parking line must be empty, violators will have to pay a fine.

What place can I take in the parking lot?

Paid street parking lots in Florence are color coded. Three colors are used for it:

  • white - only for vehicles with a special permit;
  • blue is for everyone;
  • yellow - for people with disabilities and persons eligible for benefits.

That is, you can only leave the car in blue or light blue places. The same marking principles are used in underground parking lots and other parking lots.

Which parking is the most convenient and cheapest

Parking at the San Lorenzo market is the best option for those looking for a place in the center for their car. The market is located on Piazza del Mercato Centrale, which can be translated into Russian as “market square”. San Lorenzo is not the only bazaar in the area, but the most visited one. The entrance to the parking is from St. Antonio Street.

The cost of parking on all days, excluding holidays and Sundays:

  • from 07:00 to 14:00 - 2 euros for 1 hour, 3 - for a couple, 8 - when parked for more than 120 minutes;
  • from 14:00 to 07:00 - 2 euros per hour.

On holidays, the cost of the first hour is reduced by half the euro, the rest of the tariff values do not change. On Sundays the price of a parking space is 2 euros per hour.

Are the fines big?

Parking in Florence is not a very cheap pleasure, but the fines are much higher than the values in the parking price list.

For example, entering the closed area of the historic center costs about 110 euros, meaning the amount of the fine. In this case, each moment of crossing the line of the ZTL zone is taken into account. This means that a person who comes into the field of view of the video camera a couple of times will pay 220 euros. That is, for entering this zone and for leaving it. And if the car zigzags through the streets, for example, in search of the desired address, and crosses the line of the historic center several times, then the number of fines will be proportional. If it crosses 10 times, there will be 10 penalties.

As for the wrong parking, the amounts can go up to 84 euros. It will not be possible to avoid payment, since when renting a car, travelers are seized a certain amount as a deposit. Accordingly, when the car is returned, the amounts left in the pledge are deducted to pay for the violations.

> Parking in Florence

Parking in Florence in the center is allowed only for guests of the city's hotels, so you can park on the street outside the center (limited in time during the day) or in the parking lot (there are few in the historic center). Keep in mind that parking in Florence is as expensive as hotels (and the tourist tax levied by hotels, by the way). You can immediately find a hotel with its own parking, so as not to suffer from searches. But it will be also expensive (surcharge - from 20 euros per day for parking, outside the center - about 15 euros per day).

Finding parking in the narrow streets of Florence is not easy, and often impossible. You cannot move around the historical center in a rented car, since entry into the restricted traffic area () is prohibited and is punishable by a fine of 70 euros or more. Entry is possible only on weekdays from 20:00 to 07:30 in the morning, on Saturday from 16:00 to 07:30 and on Sunday all day.

It makes sense to come to Florence by car for a few hours, walk around the city, and go further on a journey across Tuscany. To travel to the big cities of Italy, it is rational to use high-speed trains.

How much is

The cost of parking in municipal parking lots starts from 1 euro per hour. The tariffs differ slightly. Private parking is much smaller and more expensive.

How to pay

Payment for parking in Florence is post facto, depending on the time. The sequence is as follows:

  1. When entering the parking lot, take a ticket
  2. You park in an empty space
  3. Before leaving, go to the machine, insert a coupon and pay with coins, banknotes or a credit card.
  4. Pick up the ticket-receipt
  5. At the exit from the parking, insert the ticket into a special machine and the barrier opens

Everything is intuitively simple, but just in case, watch the detailed video below:

Center addresses

The closest car parks to the center of Florence are:

At the central railway station

  • Price: 3 euro / hour
  • The address: Piazza della Stazione, 13, 50123 Firenze
  • Number of places: 901

The most convenient parking in our experience (Parking Underground Station SMN) is located at the central railway station Santa Maria Novella. Its only drawback is the price. The undoubted advantages are the location and almost always the availability of free places.

On the 16th railway station

  • Price: 1.6 euro / hour
  • The address: Piazzale Montelungo, 2
  • Number of places: 165

Also at the train station, about 700 meters from the first option, is the Parcheggio Stazione Binario 16 car park.

Near the fortress

  • Price: 1.6 euro / hour
  • The address: Fortezza da Basso, Piazzale Caduti nei Lager, 50129 Firenze
  • Number of places: 521

If there are no spaces in the first two parking lots, then drive to Parcheggio Stazione Fortezza Fiera - it is located next to the fortress, a little further than the station. Walk to the center for about 20 minutes.

Porta al prato

  • Price: 1 euro for the first hour, then 1 euro for every 30 minutes.
  • The address: Via Gabbuggiani, 2/4, 50126 Firenze
  • Number of places: 300

Also not far from the historic center is the Porta al Prato parking lot, from which it takes 21 minutes to walk to the Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori.
The map shows our recommended parking lots for the main attractions:

All parking addresses in Florence can be viewed on the official website www.firenzeparcheggi.it, where you can check online availability.

Hotel parking

Many hotels offer private parking at a cost of 20-30 euros per day. I recommend the following options:

Villa La Vedetta

Free of charge

Free parking lots with a white line are located on the outskirts of the city and it is not easy even for local residents to find a free space there. This option is worth considering if your goal is not to visit the sights of Florence, but only to spend the night.

The perfect plan for the day

The ideal one-day plan for a car traveler looks like this:

We arrive in Florence by car, preferably before 09:30 in the morning.

  1. At 10:00 we go on an individual walking tour lasting 2.5 hours.
  2. Heading out for lunch to have some of the world's most delicious steaks, or heading to the Uffizi Gallery
  3. Walking around the city on our own, shopping, souvenirs
  4. We leave at about 17:00.

Free parking in Florence on Sunday

Parking in Florence is not an easy task as there is not enough space in the city. The Russian translator visited Florence for the first time in 1997, and even then he was struck by this: in the evening cars were parked on one side of the street, on the other side of the street, and even in the middle!

The entire historic center is a ZTL (in Russian: zone of limited traffic) and it is better to stay away from it to avoid unpleasant surprises! Read more about the ZTL in Florence.

But since most Russian tourists still come to Florence by car, I translated the following useful information from one inhabitant of Florence.

The following parking options are possible:

Visit Florence for one day

If you decide to do a tour of Florence for one day, the translator recommends leaving your car in one of the many parking lots near the historic center, without entering the ZTL zone (translation from Italian: zone of limited traffic). If de you need to leave the car for two days or more, then it is better to ask in your hotel where it is better to park it. They will surely help. In addition, Italian hotels offer their customers discounted parking spaces in nearby private garages. It will cost you less than paying the standard plan directly.

PAID PARKING

There are many of them around the historic center. One is under the railway station Santa maria novella... Other parking near the station (western part of the center): underground next to Fortezza da Basso(Fortress below - approx. translator) and the gate Porta al prato(Gate in Prato).

To the east of the center, you can park under the square Piazza ghiberti(called "San Ambrogio") and in the square Piazza Beccaria; to the north - in the square Piazza Libertà(Parterre) and in the south at the gate Porta romana, these are only those parking lots that are closer to the center.

From these parking lots you can walk around the city center in 10-15 minutes. You can get there by bus. Right inside the gate Porta romana (Roman gate - Italian translator's note) stops number 36, which goes straight to the center.

The cost varies from 1 to 3 euros per hour to 20 euros for the whole day (the price goes up to 8 euros per hour in the parking lot San lorenzo, and many parking lots removed the daily rate and left only the hourly rate - so be careful!) Oddly enough, in some parking lots the longer you stand, the more the price per hour becomes, so translate the terms into Russian properly before leaving your car there ...

SEE ALSO INFORMATION ON MAP ABOVE.

PRIVATE GARAGES (Italian AUTORIMESSA, GARAGE)

This is a pricey option, but it has its advantages. One of them is that many are in the center. Daily rate is around 25-30 Italian euros for parking inside the historic center, with distance from it the price decreases. Since you need to enter the ZTL to park, these garages will usually provide your car number to the authorities in order to avoid paying a fine.

Here is an example of such a private garage Autorimessa[auth e ssa] titled Parkhous ammirato on the outskirts of the historic center, on via Scipione Ammirato... The photo shows that the parking price is 2 euros per hour or 20 euros per day. From the city center to this parking lot - 20 minutes, from the station Firenze campo di marte- 10 minutes.

ALONG ROAD PARKING LOTS (PAID)

In addition to covered parking, the car can also be parked along the street, especially in residential areas outside the historic center. This is a cheaper option, according to the translator, but it will take longer to get to the center of Florence. But in any case, no more than 10-20 minutes. The only problem is that it is very difficult to find free spaces as local Italian residents also park along the road.

Park your car only on the blue stripes. The white ones are for residents, the yellow ones are for the disabled. Find a parking meter nearby (marked with the letter P) and pay in advance for the time you are going to stand, then place the check in a visible spot on the torpedo.

Prices: These parking lots are paid from 8 am to 8 pm (free at other times), from Monday to Saturday. In areas near the historic center, rates are 2 euros for the first hour, 3 euros for the next. Possible incomplete hour.

If you intend to leave your car overnight, make sure there is no STREET CLEANING on that day of the week (there are information signs along the sidewalks), usually from midnight to 6 am. If you leave your car while cleaning the street, it will be taken away in a tow truck (in Italian - carro attrezzi, approx. translator). If you find a free space suspiciously easy, this is a sure sign that something is wrong!

Along the embankment of the Arno River - Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia- there are a lot of them here. You can park along the entire embankment, from here 10 minutes walk to Santa croce and galleries Uffizi... Attention, look at the ZTL zone: immediately turn left and turn around in the square!

Other parking lots are located along the shaft ring (around the historic center) between the square Piazza Beccaria and the embankment Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia.

If there is no room here, drive further behind the tower and cross the bridge Ponte di San Niccolò- there will also be parking lots along the embankments Lungarno del Tempio, Lungarno cellini and Lungarno ferrucci on the other bank of the Arno - from everywhere close on foot to the center.

You can also park along the road under the square Piazzale michelangelo, along the street Via dei Bastioni, this is a one-way road starting from the boulevard Viale Michelangelo.

FREE PARKING (information from an interpreter)

It is now almost impossible to find free parking in Florence. Parking at the observation deck Piazzale Michelangelo IS NO LONGER FREE! Since February 2016, almost the entire observation deck has become a pedestrian zone. There are 78 parking spaces left, but for the money. Price: 1 euro for the first hour, 2 euro for the next, from 8:00 to 24:00.

It is difficult to find vacant seats here, but as people come to enjoy the panoramic view of the city, the seats are quickly vacated.

From here, the translator can easily reach the city center: to the Ponte Vecchio bridge (in Russian "Old Bridge", pronunciation [ponte vècchio]) about 30 minutes walk, to Santa Maria Novella train station 20 minutes by bus (number 13). Bus number 12 goes to the stop Demidoff on the Arno promenade, you can get off at the next stop Ponte delle grazie behind the bridge . From here it is closest to the historical center, then the bus turns and goes around it.

Attention: In the summer, concerts are often organized on the Piazzale Michelangelo site, so part of the parking lot, or even all of it, is closed. If there is a suspiciously large amount of free spaces, this is a signal that you need to park in another place!

PARKING OUTSIDE FLORENCE

District "SCANDICCI"

The most convenient car parks are along the tram lines in Florence, which run from Scandicci to SMN station.

The largest car park is located at supermarket COOP on the boulevard Viale Nenni... The tram stop in front of this supermarket is called Nenni-Torregalli(about 10-15 minutes drive to Florence). This free parking.

Another free two-level parking is located next to the bus stop Arcipressi on the street via Andrea da Pontedera.

Another free car park is located behind the COOP supermarket on the boulevard viale Talenti(behind the street via Galileo Chini), but it is smaller.

The closest parking to Florence is along the tram lines on the street Sansavino, the tram stop of the same name is located in front of it. This is paid parking, but the rates are so cheap that the Russian translator equated it with free. Open 24 hours, costs € 1 for the first hour and € 0.50 for every next half hour. The maximum amount per day is 12 euros (Via del Sansovino, 53).

District "GALLUZZO"

As soon as you get off the A1 toll road - or from the toll-free Firenze-Siena-Firenze-Impruneta, and drive towards Florence, you will drive through the area Galluzzo... There is free parking next to the main square. From here you can take bus 36 or 37 to Florence (approximately 10 minutes).

There is also inexpensive paid parking along the street via del Gelsomino, on the road leading to the observation deck Piazzale michelangelo... It is open 24 hours a day, the cost is 1 euro for the first hour, then 0.50 euro for every half hour. The maximum tariff per day is 15 Italian euros, translated into Russian money 1000 rubles. (address: Via del Gelsomino, 11).

FIRENZE IMPRUNETA (formerly called FIRENZE CERTOSA)

This free car park is located just outside the exit Firenze-Impruneta(which was previously named Firenze certosa) from the A1 toll road and the regular motorway Firenze-siena... From here to the historic center of Florence, take 20 minutes by bus: number 37, a ticket from an Italian driver costs 2 euros.

Below is a list of parking lots that are closest to the historic center of Florence - you can see their location on the map above
