The KLM airline was founded on October 7, 1919. It is now the world's oldest scheduled service company. Since 2004, it has been part of Air France-KLM. The headquarters are located in Amstelveen next to its hub Schiphol Airport. The merger with Air France in May 2004 resulted in the creation of Air France-KLM, although both companies fly under their own names. KLM and its partner airlines operate a route network that connects more than 360 cities in 78 countries on 6 continents. In Russia, KLM operates flights to the USA, Canada, Africa and South America. All flights are operated from the airports of Moscow and St. Petersburg

Rules for the transport of pets

In the aircraft cabin. Only small cats and dogs weighing up to 6 kg (13 lbs), including the weight of your pet bag or cage, will be allowed on board. Your pet must be transported in a sturdy cage no more than 20 cm high or in a dedicated animal transport bag with a maximum size of 115 cm (45 inches) (length + width + height). You can place your pet in a cage or bag under the seat in front of you. Please note that since April 1, 2011, passengers will not be able to carry animals in a cage in the Business Class cabin on intercontinental flights.

As checked baggage. Cats and dogs can be carried as checked baggage in a specially ventilated part of the aircraft cargo hold. Your pet must be transported in an IATA (International Air Transport Association) cage. Among the types of cages that meet these requirements are cages from "Sky" and "Vari". You can purchase animal transport cages from major pet stores or specialized transport agencies. The weight of the animal and cage must not exceed 75 kg (165 lbs).

As cargo. Your animal must be transported as cargo through the AIR FRANCE-KLM Cargo Department in the following cases:

  • Your pet and cage weigh more than 75 kg (165 lbs);
  • The cage is over 292 cm / 115 inches (length + width + height). On some aircraft types, the cage must not exceed 247 cm / 97 inches (length + width + height). Contact your travel agent or call us for a recommendation;
  • The animal is transported to Australia, UK, Hong Kong, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, UAE or South Africa;
  • Your pet is not traveling with you on the same flight. Special rules apply for service animals specially trained to assist passengers with disabilities or rescue teams. You can request more information from KLM Cares.
  • Online registration

    The current KLM baggage allowance may vary by flight. Accurate baggage information is available at the time of booking. It is reflected in the booking confirmation messages and is indicated on the passenger's ticket. You can also check the parameters for a specific trip on the company's website.

    Baggage that you do not check in but carry with you in the cabin is called hand luggage. You can store your carry-on luggage in the upper storage compartment or under the seat of your seat.

    You can take the following as carry-on baggage:

    Special rules for liquids

    Special rules apply for liquids, creams and aerosols.

    You can carry them in your carry-on baggage in small quantities, no more than 100 ml (3.4 ounces) per item. They must be in a transparent resealable plastic bag with a maximum volume of 1 liter. The bag must be closed and the items in the bag must be appropriate for its size and fit easily into the plastic bag.

    One plastic bag is allowed per passenger. When inspecting your luggage, you may be asked to show the plastic liquid bag separately.

    These rules do not apply to the following:

    • Baby food for use during the flight
    • Medications for use during the flight, subject to a prescription or a doctor's note
    • Special dietary products for use during the flight

    Duty free goods

    If you would like to carry duty-free goods purchased at the airport in the cabin, it is important to consider the following:
