What to eat with cirrhosis of the liver. Treatment of liver diseases with cabbage

Cirrhosis is a serious liver pathology. Untreated hepatitis and alcohol abuse are the most common causes of the disease. With cirrhosis, healthy liver cells die, the organ cannot cope with its functions, which leads to inevitable destructive processes that worsen health. Disease can be prevented. Doctors all over the world have been studying its characteristics and behavior for a long time. The result of serious research has been special diets for patients with cirrhosis. Their effectiveness has been tested and proven. Compliance with dietary rules in conjunction with drug therapy contributes to the restoration of damaged cells and prevents complications.

The liver acts as a filter in the body. In case of any violations, a malfunction of the organ occurs. Diet food stabilizes the digestive system. Adequate menu and correct selection of products restore liver tissue, normalize the patient's metabolism and general condition.

With cirrhosis of the liver, diet No. 5 is most often prescribed. Its essence is in the exclusion of foods that are harmful to the liver from the diet. They are replaced with more useful ones that do not irritate the digestive tract and liver parenchyma. The body should be enriched with nutrients, while the load on the digestive organs should be minimal. The intestines and stomach must not be overloaded. Diet No. 5, complete in composition, involves an increase in the consumption of proteins and carbohydrates. As for fats, the amount is reduced by 30%.

Any diet dictates its own rules. The patient will have to seriously reconsider the lifestyle, in particular the diet. The changes are about to be dramatic. Unhealthy eating habits will have to be eliminated, dietary nutrition should provide the digestive organs with rest. The liver will be unloaded, which will noticeably improve the state of health.

Taking into account the type, factors and severity of the disease, the diet is prescribed by the attending physician. By adjusting the diet on your own, without the necessary knowledge and experience, you can harm your health. Only responsible patients who are ready to follow all the rules of healthy nutrition and strictly follow the doctor's recommendations get the chances of recovery.

With diet number 5, everything is important: a set of foods, calorie content, processing and preparation method, fluid intake. Liver cirrhosis proceeds in different ways. There are no absolutely identical case histories. This pathology has forms, types and stages, therefore, when prescribing a diet, products are selected taking into account all the accompanying features of the disease.

    The diet should be fractional and balanced, the required number of calories per day is 2500-3000. Food is consumed in small portions.

    The amount of liquid drunk per day should not be less than 1.5 liters.

    Salt consumption needs to be monitored. With cirrhosis of the liver, it is permissible to use 1-2 teaspoons and no more.

    Solid, tough foods should be eaten pureed or crushed.

    Hide the pans. Fried with cirrhosis is subject to the strictest prohibition. Also excluded from the diet are baked dishes cooked on the grill and in the microwave. Food is steamed, boiled, or baked. The use of stews is permissible no more than twice a week.

To remove toxins from the liver, doctors advise doing fasting periods. To do this, they choose a day and eat exclusively vegetable soups, dairy products, fruits from the list of permitted ones. It remains to find out which products to fill the menu, and which should be discarded.

Unfortunately, cirrhosis of the liver is a long-term, lifelong disease for many. If you start treatment in the early stages, the course of the disease can be slowed down, and over time it can be overcome. Healthy Cell Wellness Can Be Maintained balanced diet... In cirrhosis, this is one of the most important therapeutic measures; it should be supplemented with drug therapy.

Education: Diploma of the Russian State Medical University named after NI Pirogov with a degree in General Medicine (2004). Residency at the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, diploma in Endocrinology (2006).

The following factors can be a consequence of the occurrence of liver problems:

  • excessive alcohol abuse;
  • not proper nutrition filled with carcinogens and other harmful substances (a lot of fried food, canned food, sour foods, coffee drinks);
  • Inappropriate treatment for other conditions (for example, certain medications for bowel disease can negatively affect liver health).

Early removal of the gallbladder can aggravate the condition of this important organ. The fact is that the liver in this case simply cannot cope with the excretion of bile. It accumulates in the ducts of the liver, poisoning it.

Stages of liver cirrhosis and nutrition

As a result of these factors, cirrhosis of the liver can develop. But this is the last stage of the disease. At first, the liver grows noticeably in size and becomes covered with a layer of fat. After that, scars develop on it, and when there are too many of them, this is called cirrhosis. With this stage, liver ascites, the accumulation of fluid in it, can develop.

All periods of illness are accompanied by a lack or complete absence of protein in the daily diet. But this does not mean that you need to immediately start eating a lot of protein foods. It should be introduced carefully and gradually.

To reduce the risk of liver disease and the acute phase of an existing disease, a special therapeutic diet is prescribed. It completely excludes foods that negatively affect the functioning of the liver and gallbladder.

Diet number 5 for liver cirrhosis

When preparing dishes for diet No. 5, mechanical sparing is not taken into account, that is, pureed dishes are not used. But the role of the type and method of heat treatment is very great! It is necessary to limit the consumption of animal fats as much as possible, and in particular the products of their decomposition during heat treatment.

Small amounts of butter and vegetable oil are used, but not processed. This means you can add a spoonful of butter to a bowl of warm porridge or a spoonful of vegetable oil directly to a bowl of soup. These measures do not affect the quality and taste of food, however, they significantly reduce the risk of exacerbation of liver and gallbladder disease.

There are also special requirements for food preparation:

  • do not fry or sauté vegetables for soups and other dishes;
  • you can not fry or fry foods (cutlets, omelets, and so on);
  • predominance of cooking in the usual way and with steam;
  • milk, sour cream and cream can be added to a dish (for example, to a bowl of soup) in a small amount - about 250 ml of soup;
  • use as little or no salt as possible.

These restrictions determine the set of food products allowed for diseases of the liver and gallbladder.

Allowed foods and dishes

With cirrhosis of the liver, you can safely eat the following foods:

  • not soft wheat or rye bread, a small amount of baked products from unleavened dough with fruits and cottage cheese (less than 0.5 kg per day);
  • lean meat of chicken, turkey, veal and beef;
  • lean fish varieties;
  • various cereals (oatmeal, sprouts and broths of oats are especially useful);
  • durum wheat pasta, buckwheat;
  • non-fatty dairy products (various types of kefir without additives, cottage cheese), except for milk, sour cream and cream;
  • three eggs a week in steamed omelets or hard-boiled and soft-boiled;
  • some vegetables - pumpkin, zucchini, limited tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, potatoes;
  • non-acidic dried fruits, fruits and berries (blueberries, meadow strawberries, garden victoria, honeysuckle);
  • in small quantities and not often nuts (just not peanuts);
  • non-chocolate confectionery (marmalade, jam);
  • natural flower honey and fructose;
  • non-fatty butter and vegetable oil in natural form (without heat treatment);
  • not strong teas, fresh juices from non-acidic vegetables, fruits and berries, rosehip decoctions; still water.

You can cook dishes such as:

  • soups with vegetable and cereal broths, with noodles (cabbage soup, milk soups, borscht);
  • cereals and casseroles;
  • sour cream, vegetable and milk sauces;
  • fruit and berry compotes, jelly and mousse;
  • homemade marmalades, preserves, jams (limited amount)

This protein diet can be constipated, but can be easily dealt with. One has only to follow one principle every day:

  1. From early morning, pour boiling water over washed pitted prunes, 3-4 pieces are enough;
  2. Let it cool slightly;
  3. Eat the berries themselves first, and then drink the water from under them.

All food and meals consumed per day should not exceed 3 kg. There is little difference between nutritional therapy for women and men. For women, the daily amount of food should be less, about 2 to 2.6 kg. In any case, you need to divide them into 5-6 meals throughout the day.

All of these foods and dishes are useful for liver diseases and help to cope with it.

Inappropriate foods while dieting

There are foods that, if consumed in excess, can help develop cirrhosis and contribute to its progression:

  • any canned food (canned fish and meat, tomato paste, ketchup, mustard, horseradish, mayonnaise, juices and other drinks, creams);
  • concentrated meat and fish broths;
  • sour, astringent and bitter vegetables (garlic, sorrel, onion, radish, radish, cabbage, daikon, pepper);
  • fatty meats, poultry and fish;
  • mushrooms in any form;
  • smoked and smoked-cooked products;
  • salinity (sausages, vegetables, caviar, very salty types of cheese);
  • acid (citrus fruits, vinegar, sour berries and fruits);
  • fried foods;
  • more than three chicken eggs in Week;
  • confectionery (pastries, cakes, muffins, buns, etc.);
  • all legumes;
  • coffee, cocoa, chocolate;
  • fatty dairy products;
  • alcohol in any form;
  • carbonated drinks.

Despite all these limitations, Diet # 5 is rich in delicious and healthy foods. Maybe at first it will be difficult for the patient to give up the above foods, but one has only to stay within the diet for 21 days, and the body itself will no longer require them. A period of getting used to healthy food will come.

Features of the diet for cirrhosis of the liver - menu for a week

Proper nutrition is a mandatory measure for maintaining the health of a patient with liver cirrhosis and hepatitis. To ensure it, people with such a pathology are prescribed diet No. 5, in case of an exacerbation of the disease and the appearance of complications - No. 5a.

How to eat right with cirrhosis

Proper nutrition in case of overgrowth of dense connective tissue in the liver means:

  1. Exclusion of fatty foods from the patient's diet - rich broths, dishes with offal and those that increase the volume of juice produced by the cells of the stomach.
  2. Cooking food in a slow cooker and by stewing, baking in the oven (not to a crust!).
  3. Mandatory use of the amount of such substances as laid down per day: 350 g of carbohydrates, 90 g of proteins, g of vegetable and animal fats.
  4. Fractional meals (frequent) - eat about 5 times from morning to evening.
  5. Inclusion in the diet of various berries, fruits and vegetables that contribute to the outflow of bile.
  6. Limiting foods that are a source of cholesterol.
  7. All food and liquid should be served warm.

What is useful to eat with liver cirrhosis

Diet number 5 for such a disease includes:

  • non-solid cereals (oatmeal, buckwheat, rice, semolina);
  • vegetable soups with pasta and cereals in water or milk;
  • vermicelli;
  • rye flour bread or stale loaf, crackers;
  • dairy products - low-fat butter, milk, curd mass and sour cream, kefir;
  • biscuit and oatmeal cookies;
  • raw, boiled, stewed or baked vegetables in the form of cauliflower, zucchini, pumpkin, beets, carrots, potatoes;
  • among fruits, the emphasis should be on bananas, red apples, various berries. They can be used to prepare salads, compotes, jelly;
  • vegetable oils added to salads (especially useful is that which is prepared from milk thistle seeds by the method of cold pressing);
  • from meat, you should choose chicken fillet, turkey, rabbit, beef and veal. It can be boiled or used to cook burgers in a slow cooker;
  • low-fat marine fish (hake, ice, cod).

What is forbidden to eat with cirrhosis of the liver

Diet No. 5, prescribed for cirrhosis of the liver, implies the use of 2400-2800 kcal every day. In this case, it is required to forget about food saturated with fat, about spicy and overly salty dishes, and about how to fry foods. Nutritionists have put a taboo on mayonnaise, tomato sauces, horseradish, ketchup. When such a diagnosis is made, confectionery products with butter cream (various cakes, rolls, pastries) also become forbidden. You will also have to give up any kind of drinks containing caffeine and gas, strong tea, chocolates and ice cream.

Diet recipes number 5 for cirrhosis

When diet number 5 is applied, it is not recommended to eat bell peppers and hot peppers, any onions, herbs, garlic, spinach, radishes, cabbage, eggplants and radishes from vegetables. Sour berries (especially grapes) and fruits will be a bad option in the diet. Animal tongues, kidneys, chicken hearts and pork / lamb fat are prohibited in any form! Cheese with spices and dairy products with a high percentage of fat, which are hard on the liver, should still be left behind.

Cooking fats, fried eggs, legumes (peas, beans, lentils), canned food with fish and meat, any mushrooms and smoked sausages are considered absolutely unacceptable in the diet for this disease. You should be careful with fresh baked goods and pastries. All kinds of caviar (red, black), any smoked fish, fatty herring - all this also negatively affects the patient's condition.

How to eat properly if the disease is accompanied by ascites

If abdominal dropsy appears against the background of the disease, the doctor most often prescribes diet No. 5a instead of No. 5. During this period, the body should receive 2300-2600 kilocalories per day. In the patient's diet, about 70 g per day must account for vegetable and animal fats, carbohydrates - g, proteins - up to 80 g. Also, due to the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, it is required to drink no more than 1 liter of water in 24 hours. The restriction also applies to salt, the consumption of which is reduced to 7 g.

Compensation menu

With compensated cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis, when the diseased organ is still capable of destroying ammonia through the synthesis of urea, useful amino acids and lipotropic substances should be included in the diet. And they are contained in protein, which during this period the body needs in 24 hours.

Important! After the doctor prescribes a diet, it is important to agree on the selected menu with him.

Decompensation menu

With decompensated cirrhosis, a person begins to feel much worse. At this time, he is assigned a diet number 5a, which implies a reduction in the amount of protein consumed. This allows you to reduce the load on the diseased organ, which is no longer able to process ammonia formed during the digestion of protein foods. Therefore, such patients are highly recommended to eat as little fish and meat as possible. This must be taken into account when choosing a dietary regimen in the later stages of the disease.

What Diet Is Good For Liver Cirrhosis: A Review Of Foods

Proper nutrition is an important prerequisite for maintaining health. If liver problems are diagnosed, doctors advise sticking to diet # 5.

Restrictions on the use of "harmful" products will help reduce the load on the affected organ and improve the patient's condition. Diet for cirrhosis of the liver, do's and don'ts, as well as useful recommendations and an approximate nutrition plan are presented in our information.

Many patients who have been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver are intimidated by the very idea that they will have to adhere to strict instructions and restrictions, as well as give up their gastronomic addictions.

Of course, to some extent you will have to give up a lot, but this does not mean that the diet will be meager and inedible.

By drastically changing your usual diet, you can achieve lasting improvements and even slow down the course of the disease for many years.

Diet principles:

  1. The food must be nutritious and varied, a monocomponent diet will do more harm than good.
  2. The diet should be high in calories (at least 2000 - 2500 kcal) to compensate for the daily load.
  3. Food must be divided into several portions. On average, meals should be taken 5-6 times a day.
  4. The size of each serving should be sufficient so as not to overload the stomach, but also not to feel hungry.
  5. All food should be consumed warm. Foods that are too hot or too cold are stressful for the digestive system.
  6. Much attention is paid to the drinking regime. The patient should drink at least 1.5 - 2 liters of liquid per day.
  7. It is advisable to exclude salt from the diet. Dishes can be slightly salted, but already directly on the plate. If possible, it is best to eliminate this ingredient from the diet altogether.
  8. To reduce the strain on the digestive tract, all solid or tough foods should be chopped up.

With cirrhosis, such drinks pose a huge danger to the functioning of the liver. They contain harmful additives that increase the load on the diseased organ.

Kvass, even home-made, can provoke fermentation processes in the intestines, which must be avoided in every possible way. Goat milk, for all its usefulness, will also negatively affect the functioning of the liver, because the increased fat content of the product is undesirable for any problems in this organ.

Eating with ascites

A common complication of liver dysfunction, ascites, is an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity. This symptom arises for a number of reasons, the most significant of which are violations of the water - electrolyte balance and violations of the filtration function of the liver.

Ascites significantly affects the progression of cirrhosis and can lead to additional problems, such as organ displacement, heart or kidney failure.

With ascites, it is very important to adjust your diet, therefore, new recommendations are added to the rules given earlier.

Features of nutrition with ascites:

  • A complete rejection of salty foods and a strict restriction of salt. It provokes fluid retention in the body and aggravates the patient's condition.
  • It is also necessary to strictly control the amount of fluid consumed. It is advisable to consume no more than a liter of it per day (including soups and all drinks).
  • Along with medications - diuretics, proven methods, for example, rosehip decoction, contribute to the elimination of fluid from the body.

  • Berry jelly. Throw previously sorted and washed fruits or berries into a pot of boiling water. The liver has many functions in the human body. It cleanses, neutralizes toxins, produces hormones and enzymes, and regulates metabolism. Precisely because a large amount of blood passes through the liver, blood circulation in the sinusoidal capillaries slows down and this makes it possible for cancer cells to take root in the liver.

Today, doctors in many countries of the world are working on solving the problem of metastases in the "filter" of a person. However, so far there are only well-known methods of treatment. Let us stop and consider these techniques in more detail.

Metastasis treatment methods

In general, in order to understand where to start treatment, you need to figure out what are liver metastases. Their appearance is associated with various cancers in the body. They can appear in any organ of a person, but they are usually found in the liver. Metastatic cancer is also called secondary cancer. the lesion is in a different place.

Treatment always takes place in combination, with the use of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy. But surgical intervention is extremely rare.

The first bell, as they say, is the symptoms of metastases:

  • fever, decreased appetite, "drying out", edema;
  • vomiting, nausea, disruption of the digestive system;
  • chest pain when breathing;
  • a feeling of swelling under the ribs, on the right;
  • anorexia;
  • the main sign of liver damage is yellowness of the skin or eyes.

Radiation therapy or radioembolization

Radiotherapy is often used to treat liver metastases. Its essence is that a thin catheter, which is inserted through the vessels of the thigh, enters the hepatic artery leading to the metastatic node. Microspheres with an isotope - yttrium-90 are immediately introduced. Thus, a double effect is achieved.

Microspheres clog arteries, deprive the nodule of power, and the radioisotope destroys malignant tumor cells. The effectiveness of the procedure in combination with selective chemotherapy is more than 90%.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA)

This method is used by doctors in European clinics. The essence of the procedure is that a needle-electrode is inserted into the metastasis. Through it, radio waves enter the MTS and destroy cancer cells. Is it possible to cure mts in this way? This is a difficult question. However, the statistics are stubborn - there are more positive results. After the procedure, aseptic necrosis occurs in the tumor without damaging healthy tissues. The likelihood of relapse is also reduced.

RFA is also unique in that it can be reused.

Radiation therapy

Such therapy only helps to get rid of pain, but it is ineffective in treatment. Therefore, life expectancy does not increase.

Chemotherapy or chemoembolization

Classical, i.e. systemic chemotherapy is not effective for liver metastases. It is best if the chemotherapy drug is injected into the hepatic artery. However, this treatment has a number of side effects.

The modern method of dealing with metastases is chemoembolization. It is more potent and less toxic. The artery that feeds the tumor is closed locally. Embolization (closure of the lumen) is carried out with a drug containing an antineoplastic substance.

Chemoembolization is divided into:

  1. Oil. The cytostatic chemotherapy drug spreads through the tumor, blocks blood vessels, and confidently releases the anticancer drug. The disadvantage of this method is that the chemotherapy drug is quickly removed from the vessels.
  2. Microspheres. During the implementation of this method, the drug stays in the vessels for much longer. It's all about the microspheres themselves, they are made of a polymer with high absorption.

Surgical intervention

The method of surgical intervention is considered radical, it is used only for single metastases. Usually, the operation takes place in conjunction with the removal of the main tumor. In this case, doctors perform a liver resection (segmental or lobar). Surgery is also used for palliative purposes, when it comes to relieving the patient's condition and prolonging his life. All this happens due to the advanced tumor process.

Targeted therapy

This technique uses a drug with proven effectiveness - sorafenib. It is registered in almost 60 countries around the world for the treatment of primary and metastatic cancer liver. A certain drug molecule "survives" cancer cells and slows down their growth.

Treatment of liver metastases by alternative methods

Using treatment with folk remedies, you can somewhat reduce the intensity of the symptoms of the disease. There are cases when such therapy led to a decrease in neoplasms.

Broths and compositions must be agreed with the attending physician.

Used for brewing:

  • Celandine.
  • Potato color.
  • Nettles.
  • Calendula.
  • White mistletoe leaves.
  • Hemlock.
  • Aconite.
  • Burdock.
  • Barberry.

These plants are used to treat cancer, including metastatic cancer. A tablespoon of the herb is brewed in 250 ml of water. Insist and take one tablespoon during the day.

A decoction of yarrow, rose hips, birch buds, horsetail and chicory is considered miraculous. The main thing is to adhere to proportions. All herbs need to be mixed and 1 tablespoon pour 200 ml of boiling water. Insist and take 100 grams 3 times a day before meals.

Diet food

The main principle of the diet is good nutrition. The body must receive all the necessary vitamins, protein, fiber, which are easily absorbed and do not put stress on the liver.

You need to take food every 3-4 hours in small portions. Before the main meal (hot), you need to eat fruits - they stimulate the production of gastric juice.

  • sea fish or lean meat;
  • all fruits and vegetables, except tomatoes;
  • dairy products;
  • freshly squeezed juices;
  • no more than 3 eggs per week;
  • nuts;
  • muesli;
  • wholemeal bread;
  • legumes and cereals;
  • olive oil;
  • in small quantities caviar and sauerkraut.

In addition to the above, dietary products, doctors usually prescribe hepatoprotectors to the patient - drugs that improve liver function. This drug promotes the regeneration of hepatocytes.

Forbidden:

  • Products containing harmful nutritional supplements, dyes, GMOs, preservatives, flavor enhancers.
  • Canned food, pickles, white bread, butter and sweets.
  • Sugar and sweeteners - instead, honey and natural candy.
  • Alcohol.
  • Coffee, strong tea, soda.

A properly selected, balanced diet will enable the patient to feel better and absorb all the necessary vitamins. All permitted products can be used to create a varied menu. In addition, you need to cook low-fat soups, borsch, lean meat and fish.

Forecasts

According to statistics, one third of cancer patients suffer from liver metastases. Doctors do not give an unambiguous prognosis about life expectancy.

It all depends on:

  • stages of the disease;
  • the number of metastases;
  • localization;
  • the presence of metastases in other organs.

If metastases are also found in other organs, then the prognosis worsens. In this case, surgical intervention is necessary. One of the best results of combined treatment of mts in the liver is colon cancer. Doctors have a treatment algorithm in which it is not necessary to go under the knife. If the lesions are found in both lobes of the liver, then treatment is started only with a course of chemotherapy.

If it is possible to remove metastases, then the five-year survival rate of patients is observed in 35% of cases. Without treatment, such patients live on average 5 years.

Only faith in the best!

As a rule, the treatment of metastases is expensive and requires a combination of treatment. But the nodes are single and multiple, large and small. All this is taken into account when choosing a treatment program.

Cancer is a complex disease. Fighting this ailment is hard both mentally and physically, and for all relatives and friends. Therefore, one must not lose faith in the best. Thoughts are material, do not forget about it!
